ockstar Alice Cooper has lived a truly colorful life filled with much more than just the usual drugs, sex and rock n’ roll. But how much more? According to a recent new report, quite a lot!
The “Schools Out (For Summer)” demon-singer-guy had QUITEthe surprising find recently and it might end up being worth tens ofmillions of dollars.
As the story goes, back in the early ’70s, Cooper was close friends with a young up-and-coming artist by the name of Andy Warhol.
One year for his birthday, Cooper’s girlfriend, actress Cindy Lang, decided to gift her partnerwith an original work, that in her opinion bared resemblance toAlice’s stage show.
At that time, Alice would perform with a prop-functioning electric chair seated next to him on stage.
Langthought that Coopermight enjoy a silkscreen copy of his friend’s work, a photo of an electric chair sitting solo in a red room.
Back then, as Alice’s long-time manager Shep Gordon described it: “…no one really cared about Andy. He was just coming into his own.”
Upon remebering that they had been given the work of art, tracking it down didn’t come easily.
Shep told CNN: “We spoke to Alice’s mother who said she thought (the poster) was probably still in storage. It took us probably six months to get around to going through (it).”
As young artists of the time, Warhol and Cooper were regularly photographed spending their evenings at New York’s famed Studio 54.
Both finding their way as entertainers, they appreciated each other’s unique stylings and Cooper’s girlfriend Lang even appeared on the cover of Warhol’s magazine called Interview.
She reportedly purchased the poster for Cooper for the small sum of only $2,500. It is worth…umm…much more now.
There is currently no verified authority to determine what is and what isn’t a genuine Warhol.
But if independent archivists can verify that the Warhol is in fact authentic, it could fetch as much as $10 million!
School’s out, indeed!
Sadly, it will take another generation or two of Coopers to cash that fatty check.
According to Gordon, “…My understanding is that they’re gonna hang it in Alice’s home and enjoy it for a while.”
Good idea. Time to finally get it out and enjoy that beautiful…umm, electric chair!
