I don’t know about you guys, but as much as I love my job, I’m fairly certain that it would be immeasurably improved if Channing Tatum showed up periodically throughout the day. He wouldn’t do anything, mind you; just appear, have some light conversation, before disappearing into the ether like he wasn’t even there. I’ll petition it to my boss, but I’m not too sure if Tatum’s schedule (nor our company budget) will be too accommodating.
If I want more Channing Tatum in my life, it looks like I’m going to have to stalk him, or settle for encountering him randomly, like this gas station in North Carolina earlier this week. Gas station cashier Beatrice was going about her day as usual when the 37-year-old actor materialized to delight her. He even graced this gas station with a dancing performance from perhaps his most famous role, in the movie Magic Mike. If you were paying attention to pop culture in the year 2012, then there’s a good chance you’ve seen (or at least heard about) the movie Magic Mike. It’s directed by Steve Soderbergh, and tells the story of Mike, who goes around town, making ends meet by taking odd jobs. One day, though, he meets a youngster called the Kid, and… look, come on. Let’s not beat around the bush here. You know which movie I’m talking about. It’s the one where Channing Tatum is a male stripper. Magic Mike is actually based on Tatum’s real-life travails; before striking it big in Hollywood, he made his living taking his clothes off for money, and as such, has some serious moves to show off that weren’t taught to him by any Hollywood choreographer. At the moment, Tatum is currently on the promotion trail for his latest film, the heist caper Logan Lucky, and during those travails he stopped off at a gas station in Sunoco, North Carolina. There, he bought an iced coffee and some Reese’s, and exchanged some back and forth banter with Beatrice. “We’re going to party, just me and you,” she said to Tatum, and the 37-year-old took her up on that, and then some. Yes, Beatrice became the envy of women (and quite a few men, I’d imagine) everywhere as she got a six-minute private dance with Channing Tatum, as he channeled his 2012 role to perfection. The video has generated quite the buzz online, with over 15 million views on Facebook alone. Although we all look up to celebrities and yearn to have their life at times, there’s no doubt that the immense pressure can tell, and celebrity encounters can sometimes be quite anticlimactic. On this occasion, Channing Tatum seems to be able to just be himself and have fun, and if this is all promotion for Logan Lucky, I have to say it’s a little unorthodox. Logan Lucky hits cinemas next week on August 18 in the USA, but in the meantime, let’s hope that you or I come across Channing Tatum as we go about our jobs. I’d be totally okay with it if he doesn’t decide to give me a private dance, however.
