Reputed Chicago gang member, killer set for prison release

CHICAGO – A convicted murderer who is suspected of belonging to the notorious “Ripper Crew” that killed as many as 20 Chicago-area women in the 1980s is scheduled for release from prison this week. The Chicago Tribune reports that 58-year-old Thomas Kokoraleis was sentenced to life in prison for the 1982 slaying of 21-year-old Lorraine “Lorry” Ann Borowski. Prosecutors allowed him to plead guilty on appeal in exchange for a 70-year prison term. That deal allows for his release Friday. An Illinois Prisoner Review Board spokesman says the state is legally required to release Kokoraleis because he has served the maximum possible amount of time on that sentence. In Italy’s city of love, global far-right groups join forces under a ‘pro-family’ umbrella

Verona, Italy (CNN)In a 17th century palazzo in the Italian city of love, an international alliance of far-right politicians, conservative activists and religious leaders have united in hate. In October, Verona’s mayor Federico Sboarina declared the city “pro-life” after the town council passed a motion that would use public funds to finance anti-abortion programs, inspiring politicians in a few other cities, including Milan, Rome, Ferrara, Trieste and Sestri Levante to propose similar motions, although they did not pass. Speaking to CNN from his office just steps away from the conference, Sboarina called Verona an “open city” where “everyone has the right to speak their minds.” And Salvini, the conference’s keynote speaker, has never shied away from doing just that. Inside …

A transgender student was told he couldn’t run for prom king. He fought back and won something better.

A Georgia high school has adapted gender-neutral prom court terminology, after receiving public backlash for telling a student he could only run for prom queen because he was born a woman. Dex Frier, who has identified as transgender since his sophomore year at Johnson High School in Gainesville, Georgia, was seriously ecstatic when he received one of six coveted nominations for senior prom king, an honor he was beyond excited about. “I was jumping up and down. Me and my best friend were losing our minds, we were so excited,” Frier told CBS affiliate WGCL. However, school officials told him that because he was assigned female at birth, he could only run for prom queen. He — along with his …

Why Lionel Messi is the world’s best player

(CNN)Leading sports scientist Simon Brundish gives a knowing look when asked who is the best footballer in the world. “While he’s alive, there’s only Lionel Messi,” Brundish says. “If you’re saying anybody else is the best player in the world, Messi’s had a broken leg for a year, or he’s dead, or you’re lying.” “Currently Messi has a goal or assist every 48 minutes,” Brundish says. “Bearing in mind that every game is almost 95 minutes long (when injury time is included) that’s two almost every single game.”

Buttigieg says America can lead on human rights, LGBT issues and other leaders may be ‘forced by world opinion’ to advance

(CNN)Presidential Democratic hopeful Pete Buttigieg said he believes that if America leads on human rights and LGBT issues, “other country leaders would actually be, to some extent, forced by world opinion to make some advancements.” “There’s this intangible energy you can just feel when I walk into a room,” Buttigieg said. But to win in 2020, Buttigieg says Democrats can’t just point to the “chaos” of the Trump administration, calling for a serious look into what Trump voters and the President himself are saying. “If [President Donald Trump] is saying the system is rigged — and the way he’s saying it is twisted and not really true, but there’s a kernel of truth in there — and we look like …

Is 2019 The Year Of The Scam? Betches

We’re mere months into 2019, and already this year is shaping up to be messier than my IG stories after 12am. If you haven’t been paying attention, then I’m of course referring to the unprecedented amount of scam scandals that have fed my will to live the media cycle over the past few months. First, the Fyre Festival documentaries dropped, and I’ve never felt more alive than I did watching a bunch of rich millennials resort to looting and petty thievery for a roll of toilet paper. Then Aunt Becky got caught bribing colleges because her daughter wanted to go to frat parties at USC, and now HBO just dropped a new documentary about disgraced CEO/Silicon Valley “It Girl” Elizabeth …

Airbus lands a massive deal with China as Boeing battles its 737 Max crisis

Hong Kong (CNN Business)As Boeing struggles with the 737 Max crisis, its big rival Airbus has announced a huge order from China. The massive Airbus order contrasts starkly with the problems facing Boeing, whose bestselling jetliner, the 737 Max, has been idled worldwide after being involved in two deadly crashes in less than five months. China was the first country to ground the 737 Max earlier this month following the crash of an Ethiopian Airlines flight. The 737 Max competes directly with Airbus’ A320neo. The two single-aisle aircraft, which fly short- and medium-haul routes, have each amassed thousands of orders from carriers around the globe. Indonesian airline Garuda said last week that it is seeking to cancel a multibillion-dollar order …

30 Funny Responses By Gullible People That Believed These The Onion Articles Were Real

‘The Onion’ is a satirical ‘news outlet’ that was created by Scott Dikkers in the late 1980s. In a speech at Marquette University in his home state of Wisconsin, Dikkers clarified that satire and fake news are completely different. “It’s satire. It’s totally different from fake news, and it bothers me when those fake news organizations are basically out there printing lies or propaganda label themselves satire.” Fake or not the following list of people who allowed themselves to be duped by ‘The Onion’ shows just how little research people do when it comes to their news sources. “If ‘The Onion’ ever wrote a story that fooled people, that was an accident, and that was because they didn’t know better,” …

Bill Weld Is Taking On The Trump Monster Because Some Republican Has To

Bill Weld says he knows all about lousy odds. “I had nothing to do but go to events all summer long,” he recalls. “I would have gone to the opening of an envelope if an envelope were being opened.” “I don’t mind uphill.” Weld is sitting on a stool at a recent taping of the “Politics and Pints” radio show across the street from the gold-domed statehouse in Concord. One of the three hosts has pointed out the nature of his latest campaign. “I know uphill.” Weld, though, may have a different model in mind: Pat Buchanan, whose New Hampshire-centric campaign in the weeks leading up to that state’s primary in 1992 won him 37 percent of the state’s Republican …

She’s 71 and has literally never felt pain. Her strange condition could help revolutionize pain management.

Jo Cameron has been pain-free all her life — something many might dub a superpower of sorts. While other women struggle with the pain that comes along with childbirth, when Cameron gave birth to her two children, she felt only “a tickle.” Later on in life, she didn’t realize she needed to have her hip replaced until she physically couldn’t walk. She also couldn’t tell she had been burned until others smelled burning flesh, and failed to notice cuts until someone else pointed out blood. Spicy foods — such as Scotch bonnet chili peppers — didn’t set her mouth on fire and instead left her with a “pleasant glow.” Her body also heals more quickly than most, with her injuries …
